Using the lived experience of staff to bring about change

ADSS Cymru has been commissioned by the Welsh Government as part of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan. The aim is to ensure people from ethnic minority backgrounds do not experience barriers to employment and a career in social care, and that there is a zero-tolerance policy on racism.

This stage of the work is examining racist behaviour and racist comments in work – complaints and grievances and what happened as a result. Lived experience is at the heart of the work.

Who can give their views?

Anyone working in social care now or who has worked in social care in the past and anyone whose work involves working with local authority social services departments can give their views. This means staff in any role and at any level in a local authority or in a provider in the independent and third sectors, whether permanent, temporary or agency staff.

We want to capture the lived experience of staff from an ethnic minority background who have experienced racism or racist comments from others in the workforce and any other members of staff who has heard or observed racism or racist comments in work.

How can you give your views anonymously and confidentially?

You can also arrange a confidential 1:1 conversation with a member of our project team, some of whom have an ethnic minority background. Mae ADSS Cymru wedi’i gomisiynu gan Lywodraeth Cymru fel rhan o Gynllun Gweithredu Gwrth-hiliaeth Cymru. Y nod yw sicrhau nad yw pobl o gefndiroedd lleiafrifoedd ethnig yn profi rhwystrau i gyflogaeth a gyrfa mewn gofal cymdeithasol, a bod polisi dim goddefgarwch ar hiliaeth.

Mae’r cam hwn o’r gwaith yn archwilio ymddygiad hiliol a sylwadau hiliol yn y gwaith – cwynion ac achwynion a’r hyn a ddigwyddodd o ganlyniad. Profiad byw sydd wrth wraidd y gwaith.

Pwy all roi eu barn?

Gall unrhyw un sy’n gweithio ym maes gofal cymdeithasol nawr neu sydd wedi gweithio ym maes gofal cymdeithasol yn y gorffennol ac unrhyw un y mae ei waith yn cynnwys gweithio gydag adrannau gwasanaethau cymdeithasol awdurdodau lleol roi eu barn. Mae hyn yn golygu staff mewn unrhyw rôl ac ar unrhyw lefel mewn awdurdod lleol neu mewn darparwr yn y sector annibynnol a’r trydydd sector, boed yn staff parhaol, dros dro neu asiantaeth.
