Join SWU at this year’s Scottish Association of Social Workers (SASW) Conference.
This year’s SASW Conference will be held online from November 22nd – 23rd and then followed by an informal social reception on the evening of Wednesday November 23rd in Edinburgh. This conference is free for SASW members and all students.
As we continue to work through these challenging times, this conference offers an opportunity to stay focused on the rights and values of social work. SASW will explore topics such as Working Conditions, Anti-Racism, Relationships for People with Learning Disabilities, Cost of Living, and Substance Use.
SWU General Secretary John McGowan will be a keynote speaker on the afternoon of November 22nd presenting on working conditions and wellbeing. John will speak in the context of the recent Setting the Bar report produced by Social Work Scotland – which highlighted the pressures on social workers – and will address the challenges of recruitment and retention, caseload burden, parity of esteem, and developing the social work profession
As part of the Keynote Presentation on November 23rd, SWU Vice Chair and Austerity Action Group (AAG) Chair Angi Naylor along with AAG member Dr Peter Unwin will present on The Power of Poetry Protest and Song in Social Work. This film showcases causes that the AAG has been involved in – including the Boot Out Austerity March in 2017 – and demonstrates that successful protesting comes in many forms.
We’re looking forwards to the terrific online sessions and hope to see some of you in person at the social reception in Edinburgh!
